The story centered around the idea that the hijackers parachuted from the airplane. This would be impossible to do on a 747, assuming that the jumpers wanted to live, given the high speed the plane would have been traveling at along with position of the exit door. The one known time someone did this was D. B. Cooper, who bailed out of a plane in 1971. He did that out of a Boeing 727 which had a special construction, where the stairway descended under the tail assembly, making such a jump possible. See more
