Storyline

Father Dominic, the only priest on duty one night at the monastery where Amanda is on retreat, is first approached by a woman and then by Leonard Wilson, the grounds-keeper, who insists on having his confession heard immediately--a murder that night! Steve finds Father Dominic bending over the corpse of Matthew Scarborough, but he cannot reveal what he heard under the seal of confession. Monsignor D'Amico, a longtime friend of the Sloans, asks Dr. Mark to find the real killer. He goes to the monastery as a handyman and learns Father Dominic was a childhood friend of the victim, until they both dated Matthew's widow, and that Leonard is one of Father Dominic's protégés: ex-cons he gave a first job after release. Though convinced Leonard must be the killer, how can the Sloans prove it? Written by KGF Vissers (edited by jeaneva)

The priest, the wife, the rabbit and the groundskeeper
10 October 2016 | by (United States) – See all my reviews

"Confession" is the 9th episode of the 8th (and final) season of Diagnosis Murder, and it's good to see Victoria Rowell make an appearance in this episode, as she was missing in some of the earlier ones in season 8.

The premise is intriguing and raises quite a few religious and moral dilemmas. The killer is revealed earlier on - that's no surprise - it's Leonard the groundskeeper (Chris Ellis, who bears a resemblance to John C. Reilly) and when he was caught stealing valuable items from Matthew Scarborough (whose wife Beth has feelings for Father Dominic), and Leonard killed him with a cross in dramatic and gruesome fashion. The dilemma is when Leonard, fleeing the scene, immediately persuades Father Dominic (Alan Gelfant, who bears a resemblance to David Strathairn, who was impressive in Sneakers) to hear his confession of his murder. Father Dominic respects the sacrament of confession, and won't reveal the confession to the cops, so he cops a charge of murder.

Anyway, Mark senses injustice, and impersonating the groundskeeper, manages to nab Leonard thanks to a rabbit.
