- Greg checks into a seedy Monterey motel and takes up squid-gutting to 'find himself,' while Dharma fends off the parents and their expectations of how she should be handling this "crisis."
- Eager to please everyone, Greg has finally cracked under the pressure of Montgomerys and Finkelsteins tug-of-war. Greg runs away to search for himself, spending some time on his own, masquerading as a bearded hippie in boarding in the measly Calamari hotel. Back home, the fighting goes on about who to blame. Dharma worries until Greg calls, but he promises her not to say where he is. Meanwhile Greg talks to New York Portorican neighbor Trina. Dharma goes salmon-fishing with Edward, Greg takes a fish cleaning job. Then it's truth time...—KGF Vissers
- Larry says that Greg ran away because Kitty tried to instill the corrupt values of the morally degenerate society in him. Dharma says that everybody has their way of taking vacation. Abby meditates, and Kitty goes on cruises. Greg has also gone someplace to recharge.
Trying to find himself, Greg goes on a "journey of self-discovery", which ends in a seedy motel. He lives in a cheap motel & skins squids for a living. The motel owner thinks Greg is there only to kill himself, despite his assertions to the contrary. The owner says that Greg is only on the 2nd floor and the fall won't kill Greg from that height. The owner is surprised that Greg wants to sleep on the questionable bedspread when he has a car. He also says that the shower rod will not hold Greg's weight. There is a phone down the hall, but most people just pin a note to their shirt. There are bodies being dragged away in the hallway. Greg calls Dharma and tells her not to worry and gives her his address. Dharma promises that she won't tell Kitty and Edward where he is.
A transvestite Trina (Alec Mapa) gets a crush on Greg and won't leave him alone. Trina climbs into bed with Greg to make her boyfriend jealous. Greg is scared out of his wits, but when the huge boyfriend enters Greg room, he finds Trina claiming that Greg is her lover, and they love each other. The boyfriend tells Greg to take good care of Trina, and leaves.
Greg even gets promoted at work when the owner of the squid processing plant moves him into a management position. Greg uses the money he earns to beautify his seedy motel room and organizes everything properly.
Greg learns from Trina that despite loving countries and getting a sex change operation, she is not happy. Greg realizes that the journey of self-discovery is internal and not external. Trina wants to know if she can sue her boyfriend, as she underwent the sex operation just for him.
Meanwhile the whole family is worried for Greg, but Dharma says he is a grown man and can take care of himself. Dharma confides to Abby that she is afraid that Greg will reconsider his entire life and that she will never see Greg again.
Kitty wants to know where Greg is, but Dharma won't tell her. So, Kitty tries every emotional manipulation trick in the book. She says Edward and Greg can't take their annual fishing trip together as Greg is gone. Kitty says that Edward has put his fishing poles away. Dharma is inconsolable. Dharma decides to go fishing with Edward. Dharma catches fish with her hands, as bears also do. Dharma also drinks beer and belches to give Edward company.
Dharma returns from the fishing trip and finds Greg home. Greg has shower sex with Dharma. Dharma finds that Greg never went fishing with Edward. Greg says that they have been together for 2 years and in that time Greg never went fishing with Edward. She is super angry and sends Kitty to meet Trina at the motel.
