- It's Dharma's birthday, but the surprise she gets isn't what Greg was planning. First his parents take them on a mock foxhunt, and the uncontrollably wild stallion Steve at the stables becomes meek as a lamb as soon as he meets Dharma.
Groom Joaquin (Rene L. Moreno) swears it's because the horse has fallen madly in love with Dharma, and sure enough Steve starts showing up unexpectedly at the apartment. Dharma returns Steve to the stables and Kitty asks Joaquin to lock the stable properly so that Steve cannot escape. No matter what Joaquin does, Steve continues to show up at Dharma's front door. Abby advises Dharma to talk to Steve and let him down gently. Dharma explains to Steve that they are from different species and hence can't be together. Dharma says that Steve is handsome and funny, but he would never be happy in an apartment. And eventually she would get bored running around in a field. Dharma breaks up with Steve and leaves.
Meanwhile, Greg's old flame Barbara (Eliza Coyle) is assigned to work with him on a case with an overnight deadline. Greg decides to work late at the office but doesn't tell Dharma that he is working with Barbara. Barbara's house plumbing explodes, and she has to go home, so they decide to finish the assignment at her apartment. At the apartment Barbara tries to hit on Greg, who tells her that he is really very happy in his marriage. Greg falls asleep on Barbara's couch and Dharma has to wake Pete to find out where he is. Pete lies to Dharma that Greg is drunk and passed out at his apartment. Pete gets Greg and takes him back home. Pete tells Dharma that Greg got drunk and was at a bar.
Dharma is concerned since she has never seen Greg drink so much and so out of control. Abby thinks Greg has an alcohol addiction. She says that it took her years to figure out that Larry could not get through the day without burning incense and eating a box of cookies right after.
It is Dharma's Birthday and Greg promises to be home by 7 pm, but he is again stuck at work. Dharma calls his office, and Pete picks and says that Greg went for a drink. He wanted Pete to buy him 30 minutes to pick Dharma's present. Abby plans an intervention right that day. Greg shows up late to the party with a bottle of champagne.
Dharma confronts Greg and Greg is forced to admit the truth. He wasn't drunk the night before and he gargled with tequila to pretend that he was drunk. Greg admits that he slept at Barbara's and Dharma storms off mad. Kitty is happy that Greg does not have a drinking problem and Edward laughs that he just has a little girl friend.
Dharma is mad that Greg did not even give her a chance to trust him. Eventually she forgives Greg and is happy to see that Greg brought her diamond earrings as her birthday present.
Dharma introduces Steve to Barbara to solve both their problems. It is love at first sight.
