A hardened criminal escapes from Prison and takes an elderly couple hostage, Cottam decides to offer Bob and Dave in their place, the trouble is, it's cup final day, Man Utd and Birmingham, Bob and Dave's clubs.
It's a wonderful, outrageously funny episode, side splitting from start to finish, that scene of the three of them on the sofa, just hilarious. The childish antics of the Detective duo just work, they are essentially two.big kids.
Micheal Melia is cracking as Brian, he's totally convincing as the villain of the piece.
It's only the second episode, but it's an instant classic, and a clear signal of just how good this show was found to be.
The mishaps are a joy, the way that the duo manipulate the situation to their own means is a joy, the way that their antics are misconstrued as good procedure is just so funny.
Watch out for a young Philip Glenister, he's been around for so long, also watch out for Eileen Way.
9/10.
