THE DETECTIVES – Razor's Edge - 1960

This one is episode 47 of the 97 episode run of, THE DETECTIVES. This series starred Robert Taylor and ran between 1959 and 1962. The first two seasons ran at a half hour and the last season had a runtime of an hour. The series followed the detective squad in a big city precinct. Cast regulars included, Mark Goddard, Russell Thorson, Tige Andrews, Lee Farr and Adam West. Robert Taylor headlines as Police Captain, Matt Holbrook.

Detective Tige Andrews is on edge. His wife has just been rushed to hospital for some emergency surgery. He is also in the middle of a very important case involving a group of vicious break and enter, criminals. The next evening, while on stake-out, Detective Andrews gets a call that his teen-aged son, Richard Davis has been hauled in to the station. Davis and a group of high school chums had been corralled doing stunts in a hot-rod. The tightly wound Andrews roars off to the station forgetting all about the stake-out.

At the station he blasts his son and the other boys, Bernie Finn, Dee Pollock and Marc Cavell for being idiots. He gives them the "you could of killed yourselves, or a bystander!" speech. The boys are not charged, but sent home with a stern warning.

Needless to say the Police now are informed that the location Andrews had been staking out, has been robbed. To top that bit of info, is that the warehouse guard had been shot and badly wounded. Andrews, feeling like a heel, offers his resignation to Captain of Detectives, Robert Taylor. Taylor, knowing all about Andrews worry about his wife, waves off the incident.

Andrews hits the streets and leans heavy on every underworld contact he has. This at last turns up a possible lead on the robbery crew. Andrews hunts up the gang and does a bit of break and enter himself. He crashes the door at the crew's hideout and shots and fists are exchanged. Gang leader, Dick Crockett, in particular gets a first class curb stomping. The next day Andrews gets the good news that the surgery on his wife was a success.

A pretty good episode of a series that is fast becoming a personal favourite.
