Storyline

John is delighted now Carlos is jailed for eight years and has laid a rose petals path to her bed for pregnant Gabrielle to celebrate their henceforward unhindered love-life, assuming to be the baby's daddy, but is literally thrown out in his boxers as 'traitor' while she tries to patch up things with Carlos, who demands a paternity test, at the very least... Lynette eagerly grabs the professional opportunity presented by Tom's domestic 'career switch', but when she finally has a recruiting appointment for her advertising dream job, household-novice Tom has hurt his back to tears just moving a bit, so she has to take the baby to the interview with neurotic, hasty firm CEO Ed Ferrara after having assured unsympathetic supervisor Nina Fletcher she would never allow her family to come in the way of her job, any hours any day, and leaving the baby with office junior Stu... Bree predicted trouble at Rex's funeral, and gets it in the round shape of ever-criticizing mother-in-law Phyllis Van... Written by KGF Vissers

Quotes

Andrew Van De Kamp: Mom, Grandma's leaving. All right, you have to talk to her.
Bree Van De Kamp: No, I don't. If you heard the things that she said to me...
Andrew Van De Kamp: Look, I'm sure she was a real bitch, OK, but she's family, so that makes her our bitch. Let her say goodbye to Dad.
Bree Van De Kamp: She went out of her way to be cruel to me. I don't want her at the funeral.
Danielle Van De Kamp: [crying] Mom, if you don't let Grandma come, I will never forgive you!
Andrew Van De Kamp: [to Danielle] Did I ask for your help?
[to Bree]

An Amazing Opener
23 March 2014 | by (United States) – See all my reviews

The second season starts with Rex's sudden passing. After his death, Bree informs her friends of it and sets everything up for a decent funeral. Too bad that the arrival of her mother-in-law, Phyllis, changes her plans..Meanwhile,Lynette prepares herself for her first job interview in many years. While Carlos is back in prison and demanding Gabrielle to show him the results of a paternity test. Both Susan and Mike live through Zach's little hostage situation. Then,Julie finds Mike lying to the police about what happened. This leads Susan to learn something she'd quickly wish she hadn't. Erstwhile, the Applewhites, are welcomed to Wisteria Lane.

This season opener is wonderful. I like the fact that Lynette returns to the business world because the show becomes more entertaining. Her first episode in the office was marvelous. I'm sad about Rex' death but it was also a good move since the plot becomes juicier by every episode. The dialogues between Bree and Phyllis is another high point. I am saddened with the plot involving Carlos in jail but it is not a big flaw.I'm looking forward to the next episode. It was definitely an amazing way to start the second season.
