Beah should have been nominated for another Emmy!
Sylviastel3 September 2007
Beah Richards was an extraordinary actress of high caliber performances. This episode is no exception because she plays a dying centenarian who recalls her life and history. She really becomes the role so quickly and easily. She plays Minnie, a 103 year old woman, who outlived all of her five children. She prefers to remain in the maternity ward. You can't forget that Charlene giving birth is the reason for this moment. Charlene meets God played by Dolly Parton, an American treasure and living legend. Minnie speaks about going home to God and seeing her relatives. That scene moved me to tears. I'm not one for tear-jerker but it did move and send chills down my spine. I guess I do remember watching this episode when it first aired on network television.

Cried like a baby.

I was on my first vacation out of the country. Paradise Island in Nassau,Bahamas. It was New Years eve Dec.1989. I was alone and not very social ,even all those years ago. That old lady got to me. I was going to be 30 the end of January. Made me think of my own mortality. She had outlived all her family. I have no children. Big difference. My moms husband died 2 weeks ago. He was 96. I don't know why this review has to be 600 words. Sort of a type of censorship almost. I liked the series until Suzanne left. It just wasn't the same anymore. All the replacements didn't blend in. Too bad so many of them.are gone now.
