Warning: Spoilers
True love is leading Charlene to the aisle and finally when Bill is ready to commit he comes the happiest woman in the world by becoming engaged. Jean Smart, as good a comic actress as she is a dramatic actress, gets to show off her silly side when she enters the office and giddily tells her pals the news. Distance her the first opportunity to meet Bill's mother played by veteran actress Benay Venuta, and spinster Aunt Phoebe (the very funny Anne Haney), with the later completely giving Charlene the snobby once over.

It's up to Charlene to show them who she really is in spite of her lack of blue blood, and that results in some funny circumstances where the snobs get their comeuppance but are revealed to be genuinely decent people underneath that. what could have been a very stuffy situation at Bill's mother's house ends up being funny, especially when she tells Phoebe off gently. Then when Charlene and Bill's mother begin to bond, it becomes very touching

With this episode, the character of J.D. is written out as no longer being around, having taken a job out of town. Mary Jo convinces Julia to go to a keg party with her to meet her new boyfriend, a college aged kid and it's obvious that Julia and Mary Jo stand out there like a sore thumb although Julia does have a very funny comment about the guys wearing their boxer shorts on their head. This is an outstanding episode that leads up to a big event, and if the ending doesn't make you want to tune in for the following episode, then you shouldn't be watching this show in the first place.
