Bernice gets the last word, and it's a gem.

Warning: Spoilers
It's obvious that Linda and Harry Thomason had hoped that the show would go on past this season because there is not really a closure, just a way of paying tribute to "Gone With The Wind" by having the various women think of themselves as Scarlett even though Julia and Mary Jo considered Scarlett in previous episodes (especially when mentioned in connection with the self-centered Suzanne) frivolous and silly. Here even Bernice gets to step in the role of the famous Southern heroine, and it's with her being carried up the stairs that the show fades out after seven season. With the revelation that James Karen has organized a hostile takeover of B. J.'s company as well as Sugarbaker's, the women must act quickly and thanks to the dumb lug played by Douglas May, they do. It's a shame that the gimmicky story is the way that the show went out rather than attempting to bring back Suzanne and Charlene for one last appearance, something that would have definitely set its legacy in a better direction. Julia's house is only seen briefly with most of the action in the mansion, and while it's obvious that they spent a lot of money to create this single-use set, it's not a good sign that the show would have come back for an eighth season. But there are many funny moments, and it's a great tribute to the beloved Alice Ghostley that she would be the last one to speak on the show.
