Amusing, although clichéd

Having just watched this episode, I thought I'd make some comments. Henry and John Wilson are hoping to rent the house they owned (with John buying half his brother's share, not knowing the house was supposed to be haunted). The house was featured on an earlier episode where Dennis and Co. were certain there was a ghost in the place.

Meanwhile, Dennis is being bullied by another kid at school. Following the usual mother's orders not to fight, he comes home with a black eye. Then Mr. Wilson gives him boxing pointers (while getting socked by Dennis) and the next day Dennis happily reports that he won the fight that day against the bully.

Of course, the bully's father phones the Mitchell's to complain. Henry wasn't home, so Wilson takes the phone and practically challenges the father to a fight.

Then they learn that the man and his wife were the ones about to rent the house. He has seen Henry, so he hides while Wilson receives the angry man and his son, who think he is Dennis' father.

The situation is rectified when the man learns that his son is the real bully, not Dennis. Henry and John are surprised that this tough-talking guy wants to rent the house anyhow.

I think the funniest scenes involved John bragging about his boxing expertise right before Dennis slips a punch past him, blackening John's eye, and where he is pretending to be Dennis' father.

This episode might rest halfway between the best episodes in the series and the worst.

I think every show in the 60s featuring kids had an episode involving a bully. Normally it is talked out. I do remember, probably because it was a surprise, when "Uncle Bill", that is, Brian Keith as Bill Davis confronted his nephew Jody's bully's father on Family Affair and actually clobbered the guy after he took a swing at Bill.

The funniest "bully" story I think was on Dick Van Dyke when Richie was being bullied by a girl--only because he wasn't allowed to hit a girl. Bernard Fox was the girl's father and the scene with him and "Rob" was a true TV classic.
