-
JT : Aw, did Emmy pee her pants?
Emma : No, I just got my period, for the first time.
[Toby drops his pen and Sean has a shocked look on his face]
Emma : Menstruation. You may have heard of it. It happens to, oh, 50 percent of the population. Perfectly natural. Nothing to be ashamed of, right, Ms. Kwan?
Ms. Laura Kwan : Absolutely right, Emma.
Emma : [referring to her book report] Now, can we continue?
-
Christine 'Spike' Nelson : [as Emma is watching a sad TV show and crying while eating chips] Em, those shows are designed to upset people.
Emma : It's just we're so small and the universe is so massive. We're just little specs, floating, alone.
-
Paige Michalchuk : [after seeing Emma's skirt soaked with blood from her period] Uh-oh. Your friend came to visit. Hun, you don't wear light colors when you're getting your period.
Emma : I didn't know. It's my first time, okay? Just leave me alone.
[goes into the bathroom stall and Paige goes into the other stall]
Paige Michalchuk : [as she opens up her purse] I've got a pad, if you need it. I mean, you could get one from the office, but, that's kind of a drag.
Emma : Ew. Imagine. "Mr. Raditch, could I have a maxi pad?"
-
Manny Santos : [after Emma gets her first period at school] We should celebrate.
Emma : Celebrate what exactly?
Manny Santos : Becoming a woman. Em, you can get pregnant now.
Emma : Oh, great. Can we celebrate by finding me a washroom?
-
Paige Michalchuk : [to Emma] Hey, you'll get boobs now.
Emma : Like I want boobs.
Paige Michalchuk : You might at some point. They're actually really great.
-
Rude Man : [at the mall commenting on Spike and Emma's ice cream cones] Ooph, look-a-lick at that.
Christine 'Spike' Nelson : [she and Emma turn around in curiosity] Excuse me?
Rude Man : [tells the joke and then smiles] I'd like a lick at your cone. Sue me.
Christine 'Spike' Nelson : I probably would be because I don't think that's what you meant.
Emma : Mom.
Christine 'Spike' Nelson : Guess what? You don't talk to them like that, especially young woman.
Rude Man : It was a joke. I was just kidding.
Christine 'Spike' Nelson : My daughter and I came here to shop, not to be harassed by some pig, as a form of a comedian. When you talk to them like that, it's scary. It makes us feel bad. Don't do it again.
