In 1875, Baldwin offered to buy Harris Newmark's land for $150,000 (equal to nearly $3.3 million in 2018), but Newmark wanted $200,000 (nearly $4.4 million in 2018) for it. Baldwin's attorney told him to buy it before Newmark raised the price; Baldwin bought it.
Baldwin's Queen Anne Cottage [CA Historical Landmark No. 367], (built by his 3rd father-in-law as a wedding gift,) was used in the opening scenes of the 1977-1984 television series Fantasy Island (1977).
Josephine Marcus Earp wrote in her book "I Married Wyatt Earp" that she married Wyatt on Baldwin's yacht in 1892.
In the episode, he tells "Jennie" that he has a daughter her age, but during the 1863 portion of the episode, 21 years earlier, he mentions that his daughter is in college.
His 1st marriage to Sarah Ann ended in divorce in 1862; his 2nd marriage to Jennie Dexter ended in her death 12 months prior. Baldwin's 3rd wife was Lillie Bennett. They married on 1 June 1884; she was 20 years old and he was 56 years old with two daughters: 37-year-old Clara (with Sarah Ann) and 8-year-old Anita (with Jennie); he did not have any children with Lillie.
