Postal inspector Wesley Hull is determined to discover how postmaster Jack Reardon can sell so many stamps in such a small town. He doesn't count on Reardon's pleasant disposition, or his knowledge of the letter of the law.
A postal inspector arrives in little Shermanton, Nevada to find out how it manages to sell $1,500 of stamps a month when many in town are illiterate. Charlie Reardon is a charmer with evasive answers and the townspeople are equally unhelpful. The inspector is at a loss to explain what is happening.
