Santa Fe locomotive 1010, a 2-6-2 "Prairie" locomotive that pulled the Death Valley Scotty special between Needles CA and Seligman AZ was used in the television show about the event. Fireman Robert Heinze, who worked on one of the locomotives that pulled the actual Scott Special, was on hand during production as a technical advisor when the loco was filmed crossing Cajon Pass. In 1998, the 1010 locomotive was donated to the California State Railroad Museum in Sacramento CA. See more
