Septic Schizo

This one is a bit schizophrenic. We have two main plots, one built around Dawson and Jen, the other one around Joey and Pacey. When there is a switch from one plot to the other, it's like watching two completely different episodes mixed together. One delivers, the other does not. Guess which is which?

There's no need to reveal spoiling details, but let's take a look from 1998 when this was made into the future, all the way to the year 2010... Here, Joshua Jackson exudes the charisma that makes him so cool in Fringe. Here, Katie Holmes, well... she's just too adorable for words and her versatility with facial expressions pretty much destroyed all competition on TV in 1998. And then there's the famous way Joey looks people - but that is *just* a bonus, brilliant though it is. Meanwhile, in the other plot, everything just fails to sparkle. So, this episode is half 9/10, half 5/10. While the rating for the episode as a whole cannot just be calculated as an average of those two ratings, this one actually *does* feel like a 7/10 as a whole.

Warning: Spoilers
Okay okay, I must say that Joey and Pacey are cute, sure, but it all just felt like coming out of nowhere..? Like the writers didn't want to introduce new characters and instead paired the two characters that weren't involved in the Dawson-Jen love triangle. The writing was strong, sure, and I loved the double date side plot going on, even though Mary felt like an inconsistent character. I'm not sure if I can continue watching this..it has changed a bit too much.

The One With The Double Date...

Warning: Spoilers
I really love this episode. I think it's mainly because it's the beginning of Pacey and Joey, my favorite couple from this show. But even without that factor, the episode is still very entertaining.

In this episode, Jen and her new date, Cliff, end up going on a double date with Dawson, and a girl he's using, Mary Beth. Things get very awkward, very quickly. Meanwhile, Pacey and Joey are paired up to do a science project, which leads to Pacey developing feelings for her. But unfortunately, after he kisses her, she does not react the way he had hoped.

Overall, I give this episode a 9 out of 10, which in my ratings book is: Amazing.

I don't get the order...

And why this episode and The Scare were all mixed up. Road Trip was part filler, and brought closure to the Billy digression. While Joey and Jen united to take down some creep at their school. The way Joey was pining over Dawson in silence, with Savage Garden on the back, was cute and a fitting way to end this lighter episode. I also noticed it was written by Rob Thomas, and it showed. There seem to be some time off between Baby and The Scare. And the episodes weren't as excited as they used to be. Mostly because of the way it was trying to copy trendier shows like 90210. But they don't ruin the season either. They just don't do it for me and what I usually expect of Dawson's Creek. Double Date is one of those ok-ish episodes where Dawson has an epiphany, the Joey/Pacey thing was just not happening. And Jen was becoming more annoying. This is also the second time in a row, a small part actor from Buffy The Vampire Slayer, made its way into the show. The Mitch and Gail feud is almost over, and the season can come full circle with the Dawson, Jen and Joey love triangle at its peak, on the next episodes. The music was fine, but a little too mainstream for me. However I'm still very glad it wasn't replaced...
