Having viewed all my movies DVD, it's now time to a TV shows trip.

What's is cool about TV shows is that they run swiftly. Forty minutes enhances excellence and excludes slowness. If the show is good, with twenty episodes a year, you got a load of sequels as well. On the other side, if the story and cast are boring, TV shows can become an endless torture. As for this "Dark Angel" , the balance ticks more with the latter than the former because there are two big problems:

1) the cheap and inaccurate setting: the production said that it's about a dystopia America where the pulse has devastated the economy and where the state power has taken over: well, the production is so cheap that we don't have the feeling of this crisis, all the more than a lot of protagonist live and work in an push and normal world. Maybe the last shows are more focused about derelict places but its too late too little.

2) The stories are rather boring and don't mix well: The thematic is very simplistic: either its about Manticore, X5 and it's hide and seek or it's about the Private Eye crusade. Between the dark, the Jamp Pony is the supposed slice of humor but it failed miserably. Worst, the production adds a romance and sometimes it's a soap opera and teen problems and the chunks of killings, choosing a dress, blood and laughs is uneasy.

But everything is not to throw away.

For a network show, there is a lot of subversive content that we haven't seen since X-files: It's worst than "Serpico: wrong cop who corrupts, another who is fetishist, a prison director who molests child, a daughter who kills her father for money, terrorists who fight this dictatorship, homosexuality, trans-gender, child trafficking, prisoners used as guinea pigs. Unfortunately, the more the show goes on, the more this content is tamed. Has 9/11 made another casualty here ?

At last, the cast is very good: they are practically all new comers for me but all have been very well casted. for those who like Jessica, it's her best performance. The explanation lies maybe in the fact that the writers knows her and could really underline her double personality: she is as gentle and sexy as she can be cold and unfriendly. Next, her chemistry with Weatherly is outstanding and it's not for nothing that they had been lovers at that time.

To conclude, my habit reviewing TV show is to pick the best show of the season: I choose "I and I Am a Camera » (1.17) because the camera is a refreshing guest played by a wonderful Rainn Wilson! I liked also "flushed" (1.2) or "Prodigy" (1.5), the latter being the first episode that I have watched during 2002 winter and my living in a hotel room!
