Highwaymen - known as "buckaroos" - are robbing people around Boonesborough. After the British offer a rich reward for their capture, Daniel discovers the man responsible is an old adversary from a time when he and Mingo were robbed.

The word "buckaroo" had not yet entered the English language during Boone's time. It would happen later, during the next century when westward expansion brought people into closer contact with Mexicans. Buckaroo comes from "vaquero", the Spanish word for cowboy. See more
