oh goodness, another stupid idiotic woman!

Oh goodness, another stupid idiotic woman!

She also a bad actress so it makes it worse.

I give this episode 7 out of 10 rating.

Still worth watching as the story has potential and Patrick McGoohan saves the episode from being a total bore.

A weak episode because, once again, it relies on a weak female.

Warning: Spoilers
"The Trap" is among the weakest episodes in the "Danger Man" series. Its plot relies upon having a very stupid and weak female lead---and this really makes no sense.

Beth Warren is a worker at an embassy. Despite having top secret clearance and a very important job, she just disappears on a whim and ends up in Venice! Drake is sent to investigate and finds that this bubble-headed woman ran off with some new boyfriend. Drake feels for her and gets her superiors to allow her some time off with the guy. However, she unexpectedly disappears AGAIN--this time going to Yugoslavia (not exactly the most pro-Western country at the time) and seems to be heading further behind the Iron Curain, so he goes off in hot pursuit. What's happening? Well, it turns out she's been unwittingly captured by commies AND she's such a stupid idiot she has no idea what's going on! When a show requires a person to behave stupidly repeatedly, this is a hard-sell to the audience. When this same person is supposed to be highly trained and possess a top secret clearance, it's an impossible-sell unless the audience is really, really stupid! Well, I don't think I'm stupid (but who does?!) and I found the whole dumb woman angle to be lazy writing and it irritated me.

By the way, in the IMDb summary, they talk about 'fowl play'. I think they mean 'foul play', as fowl play would have to do with playing with birds!

Drake gets a ride in a helicopter

Warning: Spoilers
John Drake's Mission: Find a woman with top-secret clearance who has mysteriously gone missing.

Overall, The Trap is a bust. It's easily one of the worst episodes I've seen so far. The biggest problem I had was there's not much going on. The episode is 18 minutes in before anything really happens. And the whole situation could have been avoided had the woman Drake was trying to protect actually listened to him and done what he asked.

There is one scene in The Trap, however, that I found particularly effective. It's when the frail, old woman suddenly rises to her feet and produces a hypodermic and a vial of some sort of knock out meds. Very nice visual.
