I bought the 1/2 hour series' box set a year ago. Before that, I'd only knew about them, having never seen them (I always have LOVED the 1hr long series).
JOSETTA is one of the first episodes of the series. In it, a man enters a blind woman's apartment, then kills her brother, in front of her.
Thinking that, as she's blind, she can't recognise him, he leaves, without harming her.
Being blind, she says to Drake that she can recognise his voice with ease.
Drake wants to 'tweeze' the killer out, and devises a scheme, in which
- through using a transmitter in Josetta's ear, and feeding her
guidance, he can make it appear that she CAN see - forcing the killer to fully cover his tracks, by having to kill Josetta's as well. These 1/2 hour episodes are, to someone like me only familiar with the hour-long series, like opening a WONDERFUL surprise.
While they're half the length, the stories are so tightly built, and so beautifully acted, there's no feeling of watching 'half' an episode.
I only picked to review this episode, as, it's an example of the rest of the 1/2 hour series' episodes.
If, like me, your familiar only with the hour long series, you might be a little put off (initially) by Drake's American accent.
These episodes openings states Drake works for NATO, and, is American. As the series progressed, the accent becomes less pronounced, but, you also find it less noticeable.
I've read (and posted) reviews for both the 1/2 hr & 1 hrs series' box sets on AMAZON. As it's stated there, these (2) series are one of the finest examples of what television could and CAN be: not pandering, lowest-common-denominator swill, but, intelligently acted, BEAUTIFULLY filmed (as someone noted in an AMAZON review, as these series were filmed rather than videotaped, they look MUCH less dated than even '70's series, and when transferred to DVD and BluRay look gorgeous).
It's both a pleasure to watch these, and sad, to think how far television's dropped.
