- [J.R. has promised to help Gary find a job]
- J.R. Ewing: [on phone] Tom, what's the name of that company I asked you to liquidate?
- Tom: [on other line] Q&R, makes those byproducts.
- J.R. Ewing: Eh, I want you to re-activate it and rework the books so that, eh, Q&R looks like the IBM of Texas. And get the books out here just as soon as you can.
- Tom: Now, Mr. Ewing, I don't think I heard you right. Now that company is a loser.
- J.R. Ewing: Fine, fine. I found *just the loser* to run it!
- J.R. Ewing: [about his brother, Gary] He's a loser, Sue Ellen, been a loser every day of his life. Now if he's wants something, he's gonna lose it all by himself. No, he'll mess up this visit without any help from me. You can count on that.
- [last lines]
- Sue Ellen Ewing: [Gary intends to stay on Southfork with Valene] What are you going to do about Gary?
- J.R. Ewing: I'm going to do what my family wants me to do. Become just what they want me to become.
- Sue Ellen Ewing: And what exactly is that?
- J.R. Ewing: My brother's keeper.
- Lucy Ewing: [in car with young man] It's not what you think. Oh, I don't care.
- Ray Krebbs: I tell you, Bobby marrying Digger Barnes' daughter, that's one thing... but that don't mean Jock's gonna stand for you taking up with Digger's nephew.
- Lucy Ewing: Then you make sure he doesn't find out.
- [car drives off]
- Bobby Ewing: [to Gary] Lucy's still round-faced and rosy, long, golden hair, and a smile that would melt rocks. And, sweet Lord, is she sweet.
- Pamela Barnes Ewing: Oh, Bobby, she's a wildcat.
- Bobby Ewing: Pamela...!
- Pamela Barnes Ewing: [scoffs] Well, I'm sorry, but you're not describing the Lucy I know. Everybody treats her like a china doll, and she's not. She gets everything she wants, and she got the Ewing temper and the stubbornness...
- Bobby Ewing: And the Ewing spirit.
- Gary Ewing: So far, I like her.
- Pamela Barnes Ewing: I thought you would.
- Gary Ewing: Do you?
- Pamela Barnes Ewing: Well, she'd hate to hear me say it, but I do. I like her a lot.
- Gary Ewing: Then I know I would.
- Ray Krebbs: I said I was coming out.
- Lucy Ewing: Oh, that was before I came in.
- [looks around]
- Lucy Ewing: Look at this, our old stomping ground.
- Ray Krebbs: Closed book.
- Lucy Ewing: Well, I've been thinking about reopening it, huh?
- Bobby Ewing: Suppose Daddy's name would have been on that list?
- Gary Ewing: I still would have come up.
- Bobby Ewing: J.R.?
- Gary Ewing: What do you think?
- Pamela Barnes Ewing: Gary... I think you and I have something in common.
- [smiles]
- Bobby Ewing: [as Gary smiles] Hey, come on now, J.R.'s not that bad.
- Pamela Barnes Ewing: Oh, Bobby!
- [Gary throws his head back in laughter]
- Jock Ewing: [prospect of unwanted guest] My house, my barbecue...
- [with contempt:]
- Jock Ewing: Digger Barnes!
