Ray is charged with "Felony Murder," which is the legal term for causing a death while in the course of committing another felony. Unless unauthorized tampering with hospital equipment is a felony, it's difficult to imagine what the "underlying felony" is supposed to have been in this case - Ray should have been charged simply with murder or manslaughter. The writers may have simply liked the sound of the phrase "felony murder" and used it without understanding what it meant. See more
