- J.R. Ewing: [appears in door as Sue Ellen coos over little John Ross] Sue Ellen?
- Sue Ellen Ewing: [curtly] I'm not willing to discuss Kristin's phone call in front of my child.
- J.R. Ewing: Louella, I'm very disappointed in you.
- Louella: What did I do?
- J.R. Ewing: When I have somebody in my office, just buzz me and announce that I have my next appointment. Don't go blurting any names out.
- Louella: All right. I just didn't think that you kept any secrets from Ms. Stewart.
- Pamela Barnes Ewing: Bobby, I wanted to have your baby so badly.
- Bobby Ewing: I know.
- [they hug]
- Bobby Ewing: I know...
- Kristin Shepard: [on phone] Hello. It's me.
- [pause]
- Kristin Shepard: No, no. I'm, I'm in Dallas.
- [little snicker]
- Kristin Shepard: I thought you'd be surprised.
- [pause]
- Kristin Shepard: No, the baby's staying with friends in Los Angeles. He looks just like you. Listen... I'm very anxious to see you.
- [pause]
- Kristin Shepard: I understand you're busy... but It's important.
- [pause]
- Kristin Shepard: The day after tomorrow will be just fine. See you then.
- [cradles phone]
- Afton Cooper: [chuckles as they enter Cliff's apartment] Well, come on, tell me what's making you so happy. You've been on a cloud ever since you picked me up at the club.
- Cliff Barnes: [triumphant tone] I am going to break J.R. Ewing. Despite the power of the Ewing name, despite the political clout... I'm gonna win.
- Afton Cooper: Why do you wanna break J.R.?
- Cliff Barnes: Wait. Listen, I want you to taste this wine. It's from the Loire valley.
- [bit patronising:]
- Cliff Barnes: That's in France.
- Afton Cooper: I know where the Loire valley is. Why do you hate J.R.?
- Cliff Barnes: Well, that's a long story. And some rainy, wintry night... I may tell ya.
- Afton Cooper: [chuckles] Okay.
- [takes glass]
- Afton Cooper: So how are you gonna do it?
- Cliff Barnes: What, break J.R.? Well, I'll tell you. When I got off the plane in Austin today, I had a little press conference. I'm not without friends. And the wire service were there, the local reporters were there.
- Afton Cooper: And what did you tell them?
- Cliff Barnes: I told them the one word that reporters like to hear more than any other word.
- Afton Cooper: What?
- Cliff Barnes: Cover-up.
- [last lines]
- Kristin Shepard: [opens hotel room's door] Hello, Jordan. Come on in.
- Jordan Lee: [enters] Never expected to see you back in Dallas.
- Kristin Shepard: Well, with me, you have to expect the unexpected.
- Jordan Lee: So I've learned. Well, shall we get down to it?
- Kristin Shepard: Don't you wanna know about your son?
- Jordan Lee: You told me he looks like me. That's all I need to know.
- Kristin Shepard: [smirks] Not exactly a doting father, are you?
- Jordan Lee: What do you expect? Call me from California. Tell me you're having my kid.
- Kristin Shepard: I was willing to come back. We could have settled it in court.
- Jordan Lee: Come on, Kristin. You're not back in Dallas because you're suddenly the concerned mother.
- Kristin Shepard: No.
- [smiles]
- Kristin Shepard: While I was pregnant, your monthly cheques were
- [pours wine]
- Kristin Shepard: adequate. But now that the baby is born, it's going to be... a lot more expensive.
- [without even offering him a glass of wine, takes sip, watching him as he sits down, writes out check, hands it over]
- Kristin Shepard: Very nice.
- Jordan Lee: Now how do I know you won't want a cheque like that every month?
- Kristin Shepard: I'm not greedy.
- Jordan Lee: Yeah.
- [gets up, walks back to door, shaking his head]
- Jordan Lee: Kristin... I think you'd better get out of Dallas. You might just run into J.R. while you're here.
- Kristin Shepard: You're right, Jordan. I just might.
- J.R. Ewing: Well, what kind of papers? What kind of evidence could old Cliff Barnes possible have had to connect me to that counter-revolution?
- Bobby Ewing: J.R., he has plenty.
- J.R. Ewing: Well, I mean what specifically?
- Bobby Ewing: I can't reveal that! It's classified senate information.
- J.R. Ewing: Bobby, are you telling me that you can't reveal to your own brother the pack of lies he's trying to sell the senate? Well, what kind of loyalty is that?
- Bobby Ewing: I have loyalty to the people who elected me.
- J.R. Ewing: Oh, come on now, Bobby. This is real world. It's not a 1940's movie.
