Wonderful episode which showed Arthur Lowe's talents as an actor
10 April 2007 | by (Manchester) – See all my reviews

This was a terrific episode of Dads Army. This showed how much a great actor Arthur Lowe was. I would say out of all the episodes, Arthur acted the best in this one.

There is a party for Officers at the Church Hall. Mainwaring's men are being the waiters. Mainwaring's brother Barry(also played by Arthur Lowe) turns up. Barry is a drunk. He has come back to get his father's watch, which Mainwaring has in his possession. A drunk Barry turns up at the party. He won't cause trouble, will he.

This episode was great because it was a 40 minute show, and for the last 35 minutes there was no mention of the war whatsoever, so if you were tuning in for the first time, you wouldn't know it was a Second World War Comedy Best Bit: One of the greatest Dads Army moment, Hodges scoffing Godfrey's cucumber sandwiches.
