A brilliant episode from the third series for what is for me the greatest TV show ever 'Dads Army'
Mainwaring gives a lecture on parachutes. He explains that British Parachutes are white, German ones are cream. Walker says he found a parachute, cut it up and made them into loads of pairs of knickers, which sold like hot cakes. Mainwaring wants to know if they were British parachutes or Nazi parachutes, so Mainwaring, Wilson and Walker go round Walmington asking women the colour of there underwear, with hilarious results. But there is no answer to the problem. To hunt down Germans, the platoon suggest using a tracker dog, Walker brings in a tracker dog. The tracker dog makes Mrs Pike fall over revealing her knickers. Walker remembers selling her a pair, they're white- it was a British parachute. In the woods, the tracker dog leads them to what they think is a Nazi, but it turns out to be a bird collector who was running away as he caught a very rare bird and didn't want anyone else to have it. Then a real Nazi enters and shouts out: 'Why do you keep running away. I've been trying to give myself up'
An excellent episode. Leon Cortez played an angry husband. He appeared as Henry the Milkman in the second episode 'Museum Piece' Best Bit: Mainwaring is talking about German's parachuting into Britain and uses Rudolf Hess as an example: PIKE: That man who works at the picture looks very much like Hitler (the platoon laugh) MAINWARING: Now now, it may sound absurd, but this is what we're up against. Wilson, next time you're at the pictures ask to see that mans identity card.
