When the War Office plans a review of both Home Gurd and ARP in order to decide which less fitter soldiers of the first and less fitt of the second should be transferred to the other corps, the last thing either's men want, all tricks go to look younger viz. older. So after a field exercise proves the platoon's fitness is at best questionable, Meanwearing tries a terrible toupee, Wilson wears a corset, Frazer and Walker earn well from 'beautician' uses of frankly unsuitable substances. Due to the choice of set lighting and camera angles in this color episode, it appears that much of the church hall set still hadn't been repainted with colors since the change to color broadcasting in the UK. As the set was originally built for black & white video recording the color palette would have been very limited anyway. Within the context of the story, obviously colored paint would not have been a priority during the War, so was a handy creative workaround to explain the grimy walls. Note how the interior scenes have the look of a selectively colorized black and white movie. See more
I think we're going to have to split this platoon into two halves, you know. One half for those who are fit and strong, and the other half for those who are not up to battle standards.
Yes, well, I tried that once, sir. It looked rather untidy.
How d'you mean, "untidy"?
Well, there were two in one half, and twenty-one in the other.
