the Wren : Well, I must rush, or I'll be late. Goodbye, Daddy.
[she kisses Wilson to the cheek]
Sgt. Arthur Wilson : Goodbye, my darling. And thank you for coming to see me.
the Wren : I'm very glad I did. Goodbye.
[she leaves]
Sgt. Arthur Wilson : [calling after her] Give my love to your mother.
[He turns around and Frazer, who has been watching in amazement, joins him]
Pte. James Frazer : A fine lassie.
Sgt. Arthur Wilson : Yes. You see, her... her mother left me when she was very young. I haven't really seen very much of her over the years. But I... well, I managed to get her to a good school...
Pte. James Frazer : She does you credit.
Sgt. Arthur Wilson : Yes, I think it was worth it. Still... it's all in the past, really. I didn't want anybody to know about it.
Pte. James Frazer : I'm an old bletherskite, Wilson. I know that, and so do you. But I promise you... nobody will even hear a word about this from me.
Sgt. Arthur Wilson : Thank you, Frazer. I won't forget that.
