One of My Least Favorite Episodes
29 June 2014 | by See all my reviews

The Cosby Show is one of my all-time favorite TV series, but there are a couple of things that bugged me about this episode. First, Theo is surprised to learn that Riley Jackson is a family friend. I'd think that all of the family members would be aware of any legendary musicians that Grandpa Russell had played with during his career (Well, maybe not Rudy since she was still pretty young).

It also seems a bit unusual to see Theo and Elvin so into blues music, since there's no indication that they're blues fans as evidenced in any prior episodes. It just seems a bit "fake" to me, especially since most young people are typically into popular music and not other genres.

To top it off, Kenny (Bud) is likewise enthralled when he meets Riley Jackson in the Cosby home, and he gets down with Riley in an over-the-top singing performance. Does a 10-year old appreciate the blues like this? I seriously doubt it.
