Storyline

Roy Brush has aspirations to be a great footballer and this seems likely when he scores for England in the European Cup Final. To add to this he becomes a national hero, having seemingly saved a young lad from drowning. But Roy has a secret - he is gay - and the editor of the scurrilous 'Scum' tabloid is making it his business to out him. However, with the help of his manager,Roy is able to triumph at an inspirational climactic football match, where his tears touch the heart of the nation - and pundit Jimmy Twizzle gets very high on mushroom tea. Not what I expected, but damn funny!
13 October 2007 | by (Norway) – See all my reviews

In the beginning I thought this was a strict parody of the British film with the same title-name. I expected Keith Allen to play the Irish republican terrorist and Lenny Henry to play the transsexual black girl. But what I got was quite different. What we view in this film is the cynicism the media and the tabloids have and how they use it on a celebrity footballer who rescues a little boy. This puts enormous pressure on the player and almost breaks him down when a journalist finds out he is a homosexual. Keith Allen even sings the song "Crying Game" form the original movie, but with a different touch. This film brings you both great depth of cynicism, humor and satire and is a great viewing for a Sunday night.
