Storyline

Saunders' and Hanley's platoon is joined by a replacement soldier from Georgia named Moseby Lovelace, who comes complete with a new set of boots that the other troops, especially Saunders, highly covet. Lovelace is eager to see action, but not interested in the ordinary work of soldiering, such as digging foxholes. He jumps at the chance to join a night reconnaissance patrol headed by Hanley that will check to see whether the Germans have pulled back their lines. Written by aldanoli

Goofs

About halfway through the episode, Lovelace (John Bolt) sits on the bank of the creek where he is eventually forced to abandon his new boots. As he settles into place and begins to soak his feet, one can twice hear the creak of wood coming from what is supposed to be the dirt bank he is sitting on, revealing that it is actually a wooden soundstage, not a real creek bank. The Georgia Boy
6 June 2017 | by (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) – See all my reviews

While resting in a farm with their squad, Saunders and Hanley receive Moseby Lovelace, a replacement rookie soldier from Georgia that is eager to fight Germans. Saunders makes an offer to buy his new boots but Lovelace refuses. When a German prisoner informs that the Germans retreated 1.5 miles from the front, Saunders, Hanley and five soldiers are assigned to patrol to check whether the information is true since it could indicate a heavy artillery attack soon. Lovelace volunteers to go looking for action. When they cross a creek, Lovelace takes his boots off to protect them. The group completes their mission and returns and Lovelace stays back to pull on his boots. But the squad is attacked by Germans with a machine-gun. What will Lovelace do?

"The Squad" is a funny and full of action episode of "Combat!", with the story of a soldier from Georgia looking for action. The plot is highly entertaining and well resolved. My vote is eight.

Title (Brazil): "Esquadrão" ("Squad")
