An American tank arrives and knocks out one of the bunkers, but the tank is taken out by German infantry using a rocket launcher. Again the GIs are beaten down the hill - losing more men to the hill. Hanley is again ordered to take the hill even though his men are both physically and mentally beaten by what has been an impossible assignment. Finally offered large mortar support, Hanley knows the mortars cannot penetrate the remaining bunker, but they can provide smoke cover. His plan is to send two men with a rocket launcher up the hill under cover of smoke to the disabled tank. Under cover of the tank, they manage to knock out the remaining bunker with a rocket and take the hill. More are killed and wounded in the assault, and the exhausted GIs strung out along the way up the hill finally realize they have accomplished the impossible. Great Action in a Combat Episode!
6 November 2014 | by (Mesa, AZ USA) – See all my reviews

"Hills Are For Heroes 2" is a continuation of part 1 which finds the squad devastated over their previous defeats. And the Company Commander, is still blindly following the "old man's" orders. Even Lieutenant Hanley is feeling it. King 2 gets some help this time without which the quest for Bunker Hill is impossible.

Again Gene Coon wrote another great screenplay which portrays outstanding dialog & character development. Kirby (Jack Hogan) is at his best going off on Lieutenant Hanley.. Rick Jason does some fine dramatic acting when dealing with the reality of his losses and the Company Comander's ignorance. And Vic Morrow gives Hanley a taste of his own medicine via pep talk & cigarette.

Vic Morrow continued his great directing; he really did his homework knowing how to make scenes both graphic and realistic. When a 7.92 millimeter bullet hits you at 2477 feet/second, the internal damage is enormous and this is clearly reflected in those less fortunate during the filming. The tank & bazooka scenes are outstanding; casting for the tank commander got them the right person for the job.

The ending sequence is very realistic and allows the viewing audience to put themselves in the shoes of Cage & Kirby. I'd react the same exact way! Very, very entertaining and moving episode.
