Saunders' squad is assigned to escort Sgt. Keeley of the Signal Corps on a special scouting mission to find an enemy location that cannot be spotted by aircraft. Sgt. Keeley uses pigeons he has trained to fly over enemy positions while carrying a small camera, and then return to their mobile roost with the pictures. Keeley is unfriendly from the start, and as the squad escorts him into enemy territory and they become involved in several firefights, Keeley clearly shows he cares only about his pigeons - not his fellow GIs. The squad takes a pigeon patrol with them to photograph German gun placements
19 June 2009 | by (Victoria, Australia) – See all my reviews

Sgt. Saunders and the squad are sent on a patrol to locate German gun placements and have to take an extra member with them.

This member is a pigeon handler with his birds from the Army Signal Corps Pigeon Service. His role is to send the pigeons over the German positions with a mini camera strapped to their breasts. The camera takes photos automatically as they circle before flying back to their loft.

After sending a pigeon up it is shot down by a German rifleman who finds the bird with its camera attached.

The squad manages to take out the German post and retrieve their camera and film.

As they return to their base they are ambushed by a German patrol and pinned down under heavy fire.
