Pancho and Cisco hear shots, ride over to investigate and find a man lying dead on the ground. They know where he lives from the brand mark on the nearby horse. Pancho finds tow .44 caliber shells on the ground and Cisco congratulates him on his observations, but then insults him seconds later when Poncho thinks he's a "good de-tec-a-tive."
The scene shifts to a house where the two killers come in through a trap door to see their "boss." The three have been running "the best silver smuggling scam this side of the border" but the old man is getting out of the crime business. His daughter from St. Louis is coming to move in and he doesn't want her to figure anything out, so he's going straight.
The other two say they are broke and can't afford to quit but the old guy, who looks like Vincent Price, tells them "too bad" and to scram. He's really nasty about it. On their way out, one of the younger guys turns around and the shoots the boss and kills him! The two want the old guy's money but they hear people coming and they go hide in the trap-door/cave. People enter the room, see the man and quickly deduce there has been a murder. They go for the sheriff. This is the same ranch that Cisco and Pancho are going to, to return the other dead man. When they get their, they hear about Will Harper's death and his niece asks if Cisco and Pancho will find the murderers. Cisco seems okay with that but Pancho, ever the comedian, says "What difference does it make if some bullet has my name on it?" He says a lot of funny and strange things.
All of the above transpires in the first seven minutes of this entertaining episode. This was my first look at this famous TV western in 50 years. What I enjoyed best was the humor and dialog of Pancho (Leo Carrillo). He really made this show special, and now I want to see more of these old shows. Yes, I normally prefer "adult westerns," but sometimes it's fun to kick back and watch a good action/kids show like this.
