When the entire crew of a grounded riverboat are found dead, a German-born doctor investigates and discovers the men died of bubonic plague. He rushes to the boat's last port-of-call, Cimarron City, to warn the town of the danger they face from the rats that traveled on-board the vessel only to meet with derision - until some of its citizen start to exhibit the tell-tale symptoms of the fatal illness.
