CIMARRON CITY – The Bitter Lesson - 1959

This is the 13th episode from the 26 episode run of the western series, CIMARRON CITY. This series ran between 1958 and 1959. The star of the series was George Montgomery, a rich cattleman who is also the mayor of Cimarron City in the Oklahoma Territory. Regular cast members included, John Smith and Audrey Totter.

The local schoolmaster is killed in what looks like accident. The town council sends to St. Louis for a new schoolmaster. Several weeks later the stage drops of pretty Dorothy Provine. The men folk in town of course take an immediate shine to the fair young lass. This even starts a bout or two of fist a cuffs.

Once a week a shipment of gold from a mine outside town hits Cimarron City. The shipment is held at the local freight office for a night, then, transported to the rail head. The town Sheriff, John Smith spends that night locked in the freight office guarding said gold.

Miss Provine turns out not to be the peaches and cream lady everyone thinks. She is in cahoots with several nasty types who plan on relieving the freight office of it's expensive cargo. Provine's tasks, besides distracting Sheriff Smith, include arranging for a time bomb disguised as a parcel to be left inside the freight office.

The night of the planned robbery, Provine's confederates set off several false alarms around town to draw off the menfolk. This way they can deal with the Sheriff undisturbed.

Needless to say the robbery does not go according to plan. Provine and both her gang members are killed in the attempt.
