Franklin Ajaye as Della's son
kevinolzak5 July 2016
"Della and Son" features writer/comedian Franklin Ajaye as Della's son Tony, visiting from Hawaii with her baby grandson in tow. She hopes to make him a partner in the catering business, but he wants to sell African dashikis to black celebrities like Muhammad Ali or Stevie Wonder. One thing he hasn't mentioned is the mother of his baby, who has run off with a trombone player: "she got the stereo, I got the baby!" Della balks at Tony leaving the baby behind to chase his dream, and shares the truth about his own father walking out on the family when he himself was a baby. In the end, Tony decides to stick around and become her partner. Any episode that shuffles Raul off to the side has to be an improvement, and Franklin Ajaye had already starred in the 1976 "Car Wash."
