Small-time bandit rises to claim he is dictator of a Mexican province. He demands a tax payment of the wedding rings of the villagers. Harold J. Stone plays Perez.

As Cheyenne checks out of a hotel, he overhears a small boy ask about his father. The clerk tells Cheyenne the boy's father has gone to Tombstone for money after a big loss the night before. Outside Cheyenne gives the boy, Pepe, money for a meal and asks his father's name as he is going to Tombstone himself. Two men in the lobby follow Cheyenne and attack him on the trail. They are freed convicts Cheyenne put in jail. As they start to shoot Cheyenne, a man rides up. In the crossfire a ricochet kills him. Cheyenne takes him to a doctor who tells him the bullet was a ricochet plus a letter identifies the man as Pepe's father. Cheyenne returns to find Pepe. After explaining what happened, Cheyenne decides to take Pepe to his mother in Mexico. There he runs into her father Perez who is a tyrant. Cheyenne tries to take the place of the man he killed although no one blames him but finds he fulfills a different need. Written by Anonymous
