Mr. Grimm's son is killed while trying to escape a posse. His father blames Cheyenne since he shot him. As he runs the biggest company in the town, he holds everyone's job hostage until he gets a trial for justice - hangman's justice.
Cheyenne and three men including his Deputy and the Mayor are after Jud Grimm who is shooting at them. Jud fakes giving up but throws dirt into Cheyenne's face as he prepares to cuff Jud. As he runs off he picks up a gun and fires at Cheyenne who kills him. Jud's father Nathanael Grimm does not respond to a telegram sent him so the town goes ahead with an inquest finding it justifiable homicide. At the end of the hearing He arrives with an entourage. He owns the local mine which is what keeps the town going. He tells the crowd that he expects a trial for Cheyenne at which he expects a guilty decision and a hanging. He doesn't believe Jud broke into saloon girl Grace Evans room, beat her up, stole money from her and left on a stolen horse. The town supports Cheyenne until the next day when Grimm pulls his money out of the bank and closes the mine. Grimm pushes mine foreman Wesley Mason to stir the men up. In the end revenge is had - of a different type. Written by
