Joe Cooper's crew stops due to a broken axle on the chuck wagon. The men go to town for some fun while Joe picks up supplies and foreman Cheyenne looks for a new axle. One of the men, Callow, repeatedly accosts women outside the saloon. Callow stops a woman and her son who is the Marshal's wife. The Marshal knocks him out with his gun as Cheyenne walks up to apologize. Marshal Delaney tells Cheyenne to have his men out of town that day. Cheyenne reports the order to Joe who leaves to track down missing cowhands. He finds Gorrell, Dillard, and Tully who want to rob the bank. When he recognizes what they are up to, Tully hits Joe with his gun barrel killing him. Gorrell decides they can use the incident to incite the crew to create a disturbance to cover robbing the bank. When Dillard reports that Joe is dead, Joe's sick brother wants answers. Cheyenne offers to return to town but once there finds the crew has turned when Tully tries to kill him. He and only a few men are left to support the Marshal.
