What started out as a simple buffalo hunting party turns deadly when a Sioux war party wants their horses. Cut off from an approaching Army patrol, they must defend themselves and hope they can be rescued in time.

Cheyenne is hired to guide a hunt for buffalo. The group is led by Marshal Al Lestrade of Dodge City. It includes his sister Lily along with Senator Leland Carr and Phil Kenton and his wife Nora plus a cook and wrangler. Cheyenne finds a herd of about 200 buffalo but they are scared off by someone shooting a powerful rifle. He finds a 50-70 shell along with a cigar stub. Lily tries to say she fired the shot at a rabbit but Cheyenne suspects Lestrade of wanting to keep the camp poker game going. He is starting to wonder if this party was such a good idea and confronts Lestrade. Was he hired to kill buffalo or get mixed up in gambling, or come between husband/wife squabbles. As they start to argue the other men and Lily state they want him to stay. The next day they go after the buffalo but Cheyenne is wounded by a bullet and the Senator is stomped on buy stampeding buffalo but lives.
