Cheyenne is asked by an Army hero before he dies to help his son enlist in the Army. Cheyenne succeeds but the young man becomes disillusioned because of his horse and a head strong post commander who also is causing an Indian uprising.
Sgt. Tom Wayne is killed at Verdi River when he blows himself and twenty Indians up to save his troop. Before he died he asked Cheyenne to help his teenage son Jed who just turned of age to enlist. After recovering from a wound, Cheyenne finds Jed in jail at Santa Fe. Alone and bitter he tags along with Cheyenne to Fort Sumner to enlist. Cheyenne is suppose to report to Fort Sumner with orders concerning the Comanches near there. They find a Colonel who hates Indians and goes by the book. When Jed's horse Glory comes up lame he's had enough and deserts taking his horse, leaving his troubles and his friend Cheyenne behind. He comes across the Chief of the Comanches Little Elk who gives Jed protection in his camp. Cheyenne is able to delay desertion charges until he can try to find Jed and bring him back. Cheyenne finds him in the Comanche camp where he must also deal with an Indian uprising over the Colonel's orders that the Comanche must move to the desert in the southwest. Written by
