Ted Danson had to skip filming after contracting Chicken Pox. Rather than delay production, it was decided to rewrite his part out of the episode using the same illness as the reason for the character's absence. His brief appearance in the opening explaining the absence was shot separately and added in post production.

First appearance of Carla's oft-mentioned spiritualist Madam Lazora.
Frasier calls Madame Lazora a "Mountebank." This somewhat antiquated insult (from the Italian for "Mount The Bank," meaning to step on a raised platform) was used to refer to snake oil salesmen and charlatan "spiritualists" starting in the 19th century and was a favorite insult of Harry Houdini's.
The title of this episode is a nod to the 1947 Jean Tierney film "The Ghost and Mrs. Muir".
