Storyline

Sam's old wolf-hound in crime, sportscaster Dave Richards, announces that he is now single and once again on the market. As a reflex, Sam goes off with him babe hunting until he sees Diane and remembers that he is now in a relationship. Dave is surprised at their relationship, and vows that they will no longer be an item within 24 hours. Sam and Diane are incredulous but nervous as to Dave's statement as they know Dave will do whatever he needs to to break them up. For Sam and Diane, things go from bad - when Diane finds out that Sam still has his little black book - to worse - when Dave drops off a date, Didi, for Sam. Thinking that Dave might actually be right, Sam goes off with Didi. After the fact of Sam's encounter with Didi, Sam and Diane have to decide if the the end goal or each small victory is what is most important in their relationship. They also have to decide if Dave's deliberate attempts to break them up should factor into the equation. Written by Huggo

Quotes

Norm Peterson: Hey Dave, Dave. What was that you said at the end of your sports report last night?
Dave Richards: Oh, I said uh, "Good night and remember: the world is full of winners and loser. Here's hoping you're one of them."
Norm Peterson: Well, I guess I did hear it right.

Old Flames (#2.7)

Sam's friend Dave wants to hang out with him but he can't because of his relationship with Diane. So Dave predicts that they will break up within 24 hours and works on it. He makes Diane aware of Sam still having his phone book and even gets him with a woman, but Sam stays faithful to Diane and they stay together.

To quote Dave, "puke!". I never like episodes where people choose relationships over friendship. Especially such stupid relationships as they have. I mean they fight every night, Diane is annoying as hell, have nothing in common and I should believe that this makes him happier? Never!
