Sammy's Got The Bar Back!
Bolesroor8 May 2011
Warning: Spoilers
As a reward for turning in Robin Colcord, Sam regains ownership of Cheers.

Finally! No more corporate ownership of the bar... This is a bittersweet episode… it's satisfying to see the bar return to Mr. Malone since the show was always built around that premise, but the events in this episode permanently displace the character of Rebecca: she would never be relevant again. Once Sam gets the bar and Rebecca gets fired by the corporation there is no reason for her to be at Cheers. The writers temporarily toyed with the idea of having her wait tables and then quickly hired her on as "bar manager" which was an just excuse for her to wander around counting receipts in a cigar box. Get real.

For those keeping score, this is the episode in which Sam finally bangs Rebecca, but of course it's just at the exact second that Robin Colcord comes swooping in to pronounce his true love for her. Isn't that just always the way? In many ways, this is the true Series Finale for the show… the next three seasons would be shaky in story lines and repetitive in punchlines. (Here's a heads-up for those of you who might not know it: Norm likes beer.) The premise of the show ended with this episode, as Sam gets his bar back and sleeps with Rebecca.

Cheers would never be the same after this season- there would be brilliant lines and great single episodes but this represents the last of the ongoing story lines, romances and new characters that were the hallmark of the show. See you in Season Nine!

Cry Harder (#8.26)

Warning: Spoilers
After Sam told about Robin, Robin is in trouble. But Sam gets his bar back for less than a dollar. When Rebecca finds it out she is mad at that betrayal and wants to leave, but Robin ran away to another country. She starts working in the bar as a waitress but as her and Sam get closer in the office Robin comes back because he realizes he loves Rebecca.

I am not sure I will like what comes after the ending. I hate the idea of Sam being with Rebecca. And it seems out of place for me that Robin came back risking his freedom out of love for Rebecca. He is not like that nor did he actually love her all that much. And while I am happy for Sammy to have his bar back, I am not too crazy to have the same structure as in Diane times. But we will see what happens now, they can positively surprise us.

The Return of the King
Hitchcoc2 September 2019
Sam blows the whistle on Colcord and is rewarded with the return of Cheers. For one dollar, the corporation is so happy, they give Sam the deed to the property. Meanwhile, Rebecca goes bonkers about her being a failure. It works well and asks us to be pretty open minded over the next three seasons.
