Doug McClure becomes Checkmate's own client as Anthony George and Sebastian Cabot have to work hard to get him off a murder rap when they're down in Tiajuana. Getting him free from the police in the person of Martin Landau is one thing. Getting McClure out of the clutches of Mexico's most famous matador is another.
Conte who is a national hero is a most vengeful man. After a brief flirtation with his sister under Conte's disapproving eyes, McClure finds Lisa Gaye's body on a beach. It looks bad, but there's not enough to sustain an arrest. That does not cut it with Conte who has his own plans for McClure.
Of course McClure gets off to be in the next Checkmate story. But you have to see what Conte has in store for him. He could get away with it too.
Conte in his career turned in great performances in various roles in the good and bad divide of character. This one is one good bad guy.
