Something Wicca this way comes, and unfortunately, won't stay
2 August 2016 | by See all my reviews

This was a rather decent first episode to this show. I'm surprised that it was as good as it was, considering Charmed has a reputation of not being the best of TV. It has a simple premise. Leads discover their powers and destiny, whilst villain waits for chance to attack. Though it does get those simple requirements correct, and not try to do something else entirely and fail at it. The three leads come off as likable in their own ways, and establish each of their character archetypes. Piper is reserved and sarcastic, but acts as a mediator. Phoebe is reckless, but carries the essence which stops the trio from breaking apart. Prue is grouchy and grudge-bearing, but just wants what's best for the team, like a mother. We are introduced to Andy, who plays a major role in the duration of season 1, and Darryl, who is overall more important later on in the show. The villain of the episode is surprisingly threatening, and he carries the vibe of the idea that any normal-looking person can be their worst nightmare. The problems with the episode are not huge, mostly because the episode just feels a bit basic. It doesn't really try anything new, which is a major problem in season 1 overall. But it's good to look back at when Charmed was better than it was now.
