The episode title is derived from Shakespeare's play Macbeth, in which the second of the three witches says, "By the pricking of my thumbs, Something wicked this way comes" (Act 4, Scene 1). The phrase was also the title of a 1962 novel by Ray Bradbury

The establishing shot of the Manor (the Halliwell house) shows Piper going in the door with a black umbrella with a white stripe around the outer edge. The next shot, from the interior, shows her hanging up a black umbrella with a floral print. This happened because the establishing shot comes from the original, unaired pilot but the interior scene was re-shot. See more
