Angels on Vacation
26 September 2011 | by (las vegas, nv) – See all my reviews

Not-bad episode from the generally excellent freshman season of the popular Spelling-Goldberg TV detective series. While en-route to a mountain resort for a three-day holiday, heavenly crime-fighters Jill and Kelly must contend with Sabrina's "celebrity worship" of a Polish politician and author who will also be at the chalet, giving a speech on the evils of communism to delegates of various countries. But the trouble really starts after wily Professor Wycinski (Theodore Bikel) makes innocent/intimate chit-chat with Sabrina in her hotel room, but doesn't appear to recognize her moments later when she's out by the pool boasting to her friends. The Angels smell trouble, which leads in due course to Sabrina posing as a near-sighted waitress in the (rather dinky) dining hall, Jill posing as a maid (her legendary blonde mane stuffed inside a red bandanna), and Kelly unceremoniously acting as lookout for the Professor's son (who misses his plane!). The plot is overloaded with heavies, including an F.B.I. agent who threatens to arrest Sabrina for no reason, and the surprise twist (lookalike Wycinskis!) is ludicrous. However, the interplay between the bantering Angels is a lot of fun, and Kate Jackson gets to perform some uncharacteristic slapstick with her dinner plates. Farrah Fawcett-Majors (at one point braless in a tennis shirt and short-shorts) is the no-nonsense Angel this time, telling Sabrina that a ringer for the Professor "could do a helluva lot of damage!" Jaclyn Smith flashes a floral bikini--which she purchased at the gift shop--but spends the rest of the episode hiding underneath a black-and-white flannel shirt thick enough to be a jacket. That's no way for an Angel of Charlie's to spend her vacation!
