- The agency is hired by wealthy but ailing industrialist John Stambler. He is certain that in reading the obituary of Joan Freeman, who died in accidentally being hit as a pedestrian by a speeding truck in the small farming town of Caine's Corners, California, that she is really who he knew as Joan Cabelli. The two were to be married thirty-five years ago, and although Stambler is certain she still loved him, she called off the engagement. Out of circumstance, the two lost touch shortly thereafter. He wants the Angels to find who is listed in the obituary as her son, William Freeman, who Stambler believes is his biological son as the obituary never stated anything about Joan ever having married, and Bill's age fits when Stambler and Joan would have been together. Stambler has come to them instead of using his own investigators as Bill Freeman as his son could have major implications to the power structure of his companies. In arriving at Caine's Corners, the Angels and Bosley discover that others seem to be interested in Joan Freeman's past, someone or some people who are trying to hide something as an unexplained fire at the county courthouse the day of Joan's funeral is too coincidental, it the first place to discover if Joan Freeman and Joan Cabelli were indeed one and the same. They also discover that Joan Cabelli herself has ties to wealth and power, many of those ties to the underworld. They are able to find Bill, who is currently working as a stunt pilot in an air show in Reno. Kelly, who is tasked with being the one to approach Bill, discovers that he is a free spirit with wanderlust. She has to balance their work for Stambler with his sense of honoring blood ties, against her true feelings for Bill who may not only not appreciate being tied down by corporate money, but more importantly being lied to by Kelly for who he is also developing feelings.—Huggo
