Staggeringly good

This is Jaclyn Smith's shining hour in season 4 - only her work in
"Avenging Angel" can compare. A straightforward dramatic episode with
barely even a hint of humor in it, "Angel's Child" deals with child
abuse - a touchy topic which you wouldn't see handled so directly in
earlier seasons of the show. And what's more, the man who is abusing
his own son is a veteran police sergeant that Kelly is working with in
her latest case. Simon Oakland delivers a powerful performance in that
role, and I nominate the scenes where Kelly, who is especially
sensitive to child issues having grown up as an orphan herself,
confronts him about what's been going on as perhaps Jaclyn Smith's best
acting moments in the series. The other Angels and Bosley are barely
involved in this episode, but they're useful when it matters. "Child's
Angel" belongs in the Top-5 of the entire series, in my opinion. ***1/2
out of 4.
