Farrah returns
adamcshelby6 August 2021
This was probably a long awaited episode for the original fans of Charlie's Angels, the return of Farrah Fawcett as Jill Munroe. They say you can never go home again, and in the TV show sense, it's true. You can't really recapture the chemistry and freshness of the original three. Cheryl Ladd has been great as Jill's sister Kris, and her scenes with Jaclyn Smith have always been solid, but Farrah was an icon and the chemistry changed when she left.

Does this show reclaim some of that? Well, maybe in scene or two, but the plot unfortunately keeps Jill away from Sabrina and Kelly for long stretches, so it's hard to really judge.

Plot wise, Jill returns from her car racing career in Europe with a fiancé played by Steven Collins. Collins is a fellow driver named Steve Carmody. Horst Buchholz plays Jill's ex b/f Paul Ferrino, another F1 type driver who now wants Jill to drive his test car that unknown parties are trying to destroy.

That's what the Angels have to figure out; who's trying to blow up the test car? For most of the episode Carmody is under suspicion, carrying major gambling debts and a pugnacious rivalry with Ferrino. There's a pretty good scene where Kris questions Collins in front of Jill, and you can see that Kris is hurt to have to do it but it's all part of the job.

There's a great scene late in the episode where someone tragically dies, and that leads to one of the best moments in the episode, the final one, where the Angels and Bosley gather on the beach to have a picnic with their old friend Jill. It's sweet and sentimental and it leaves you with the hope that Farrah's future appearances will be more impactful.

Speaking of Farrah, her performance was a little subdued, as if she was out of place. The great smile was there but not as strong and vibrant as in season one, as if she has been through a lot in the preceding year and a half. Her natural vivaciousness was at maybe a 7, instead of the 9's and 10's she gave off in Season One.

A solid episode overall, but missing a little magic.

Sisters... Jill and Kris ❤

I'm 42 years late to this series but glad they brought back Jill for this episode. It was nice to see Kris and Jill together. One thing I didn't like Jill seemed withdrawn from Kelly and Sabrina throughout the episode.

One of the most emotional episodes
gridoon202427 November 2012
Warning: Spoilers
If one was mean-spirited, one could argue that the main reason Farrah Fawcett decided to return, even as a special guest star, to the series that made her famous after an one-year absence is that her film career (with flops like "Somebody Killed Her Husband") did not take off the way she expected to. But why be mean-spirited? Her return works well, and on the basis of this episode a "Charlie's Angels" series with FOUR Angels instead of three would be quite feasible; on the other hand, it might have been too radical a change to a profitable formula. "Angel Come Home" is one of the most emotional episodes, with a wide range of emotions; from (infectious) joy to sorrow. But the crime plot is also pretty good; the bad guy's motivation makes sense. And Cheryl Ladd wears a couple of amazingly sexy outfits (that black dress....damn!). *** out of 4.

Farrah's BAAAAACK!!!
robrosenberger13 September 2010
Warning: Spoilers
Wheeeeeeee!!! Farrah returns from the European racing circuit, summoned by a counterfeit cable. The producers take the bull by the horns, starting off with a solitary "reunion" between Jill and sister Kris, who'd never met on screen. It works, touchingly so. The costume designers have fun...under some accessories, Farrah's first costume is a poster-iconic red swimsuit, with heavenly nipples just where we left them. Everyone gets caught up in a mystery involving a new racing engine. Jill's fiancé arrives, heavenly played by Stepen Collins (SEVENTH HEAVEN's Rev, STAR TREK's Will Decker). Jackie Stewart pops in. It's all absolutely divine. And in the final scene, a surprise...it's little sister Cheryl Ladd who appears in a bathing costume that might make a gay man (or straight woman) reconsider.

CHARLIEs ANGELS Episode with Horst BUCHHOLZ
ZeddaZogenau22 March 2024
In the third season of the crime series "Charlie's Angels" Farrah FAWCETT (1947-2009) has long since left the role of Jill Munro and lives as a racing driver in beautiful Europe. In the episode "An Angel on Hot Tires" (Angel Come Home, S3 E2, September 20, 1978), the ex-angel is lured to LA under a pretext and immediately meets a world star from Berlin. Paul Ferrino (Horst BUCHHOLZ, 1933-2003) is a successful racing car developer who makes the enthusiastic racing driver Jill an offer that she cannot refuse. However, several other racing enthusiasts are also interested in the master's special invention. So Jill's smart fiancée Steve (Stephen COLLINS) arrives on the scene. And a shady mechanic (Bill VINT) and a provocative manager (Dolly READ) also pursue their own plans. By the way, you can also admire the real racing driver Jackie STEWART in a cameo appearance. It's a matter of honor that the three acting angels (Kate JACKSON, Jaclyn SMITH, Cheryl LADD) give their ex-colleague a helping hand.

After his breakthrough in the West German film industry (Die Halbstarken / Monpti / Felix Krull), Horst BUCHHOLZ made the leap to Hollywood (The Magnificent Seven). But he was also a welcome guest in the Roman Cinecitta (Our Man in Istanbul / Life is Beautiful). When film roles became rarer in the 1970s, the handsome Berliner made a few guest appearances on television.

Nostalgically beautiful!

Why would you bother to watch a show you hated
cpotato101015 January 2019
Unless it was so you could leave a nasty review?

Yes, at the point of Charlie's Angels Farrah was not the best actress. At the time CA premiered, I remembered her most from the movie Logan's Run. It was not a big part, although I think everyone cheered when she got punched out by Jenny Agutter, so it was memorable.

I probably had seen her on $6M Man, but nothing I remember at this time.

btw, she did take a little time off, and came back a much better actress, starting with Burning Bed.

I knew more of Kate Jackson, first from Dark shadows, and then The Rookies. She did an incredible job on Dark Shadows, almost all of her performance was silent. I remember her eyes most of all, so amazingly expressive.

The ending of this episode was so wrong, even if I were a huge fan of the show or the actresses I could not rate it higher. I blame the writer or the director for not having "Jill" show any reaction to the car blowing up.

Which is odd if it was the writer, since Stephen Kandel had worked with Farrah on Harry O.

Director Paul Stanley had done a lot of TV, including three Outer Limits, two of which I liked, and one, "Counterweight" which I hated. But that was largely the writing/story, not the directing.

It continues with the picnic on the beach. It was like, Oh well, the love of Jill's life was just blown up, let's have some food.

I think in part this is something that occurred on a lot of Aaron Spelling shows - I don't think many of them dealt with deep emotions.
